Hitachi High Technologies America

Hitachi understands that STEM education is critical to the future of the US and the world.  By 2018, experts predict the U.S. will have 1.2 million job openings in STEM-related occupations—but only 200,000 new graduates will have the skills to fill them..  Hitachi High Technologies America is working to inspire a new generation of achievement in STEM education.

In addition to its work in schools and colleges, Hitachi is working with Change The Equation and The National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network to promote STEM education nationally. (

Hitachi is bringing to the table everything from interactive white boards and projectors to he TM3030 portable scanning electron microscope in the case of STEAM3 . Compact tabletop system with a smooth magnification from 15x up to 30,000x and digital zoom: 2x and 4x). Such precision is used by scientists in medicine, nanotechnology research, biology, geology, semiconductors, archaeology, aerospace, forensics, entomology, oceanography, and in the case of STEAM3 - NanoArt!!!!

Internationally acclaimed, award winning nanoartist, Cris Orfescu from LA, will have a mini lab set up to with the TM3030 portable scsnning electron microscope to demonstrate how he creates his amazing artwork At STEAM3, Cris specializes in using multimedia as well as fractals, digital collage, digital painting and manipulation.

Learning Innovations in Future Education (LIFE)

Learning Innovations in Future Education (LIFE) is the new education arm of The Futures Lab, Inc., led by CEO Maggie Duval. Our focus is four-pronged.

The first is on creating and building innovative, collaborative “make visual labs,” or augmented maker spaces that transfer visual, audio, and interactive experiences into schools, leveraging everything from new techniques in interactive storytelling, to building objects both in the physical and virtual, as well as hybrid and crossover versions.

We both develop these make visual labs for the educational facility, or consult on how to develop their own. These hands-on, fast-reacting education and research facilities encourage the creation, production and testing of new approaches which are unique in that education is experienced as more an immersive event than a string of seemingly unrelated exercises.

Secondly, we specialize in developing compelling, engaging, and immersive educational content and programs, which emphasize a multidisciplinary, multi-threaded, multi-generational – “porous to the community” – lifelong learning approach, with an emphasis on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics). Immersive means not only in “make visual labs”, but also live and in real time, learning in real settings, at/alongside innovative companies and research labs – “in the field” as it were.

Thirdly, we are unparalleled in serving as a conduit or liaison for emerging ideas and tech between educational facilities and university R&D labs and corporate collaborators and clients. Content and technology often reflects ideas resulting from The Futures Lab’s consulting assignments and our passion (and specialty) is putting these cutting-edge materials and ideas into the hands of students, teachers, and artists from many disciplines.

The Futures Lab, Inc.

  • Beyond strategic planning and traditional R & D
  • More expansive than the subject category alone
  • Creating a harmony between consumers, social change, technologies and content delivery
  • A robust Futures Studies approach that offers significantly more depth, breadth and insights than trend-watching and analysis – ensuring short-term decision are future relevant

According to our clients, what makes us different, is our powerful ability to generate the unexpected. This arises from a combination of provocative, innovative thinking that takes us far beyond our own proprietary processes, and our ability to really find future opportunities that lead to category creation and leadership.

Skybridge Academy

Skybridge Academy is founder Ariel Miller’s contribution to the world of education she cares so deeply about.  Her intention is to create an environment with integrated, relevant academics, while providing a vital learning community where every student is deeply honored for who they are as a unique individual.  The Skybridge program has a thriving full time community comprised of extraordinary teens and preteens and we welcome homeschoolers to join any of our classes a la carte.

As your child discovers their deepest strengths, they will help refine those strengths and bring them out into a dynamic relationship with the world.  If she or he is aiming to attend a competitive college, they will work with the SAT test starting in junior high so they understand what skills are measured and can learn, over time, how to perform highly on it.

Skybridge Academy provides an innovative answer to the question of how to best educate young people.  Using written evaluations instead of grades, and their own benchmarks versus standardized tests, they support their students in learning how they learn and developing a sense of what motivates them.
Their experience with college admissions is that they want students with unique accomplishments, as well as high AP and SAT scores.  Skybridge focuses on the unique individual sets students on the path of becoming life long learners who enjoy learning because they appreciate knowledge versus memorizing things for the test and then never having the chance to apply what they have learned.

Skybridge Academy will strive to meet your family’s needs in a practical, common sense way that is relevant to our global, 21st-century culture.  Their inclusive, reverent culture, flexible hours, use of technology, and deep Socratic inquiry, allow their students to be extremely competitive when they enter the college admissions process and/or professional job market.

ATX Hackerspace

We are a community of people who love to learn and make things, as well as a collaborative industrial workshop. We are located at 9701 Dessau Rd, Suite #304, Austin TX 78754.

We have 8000 square feet of space perfect for artists, designers, engineers, makers & hackers, fabbers, scientists, musicians, seminars and workshops, coworking, and a ton of other stuff. Anything that needs a space, involves loud equipment, messy equipment (woodworking, soldering/welding, painting), power equipment (120V, 240V, and 3-phase power available), or ventilation for fumes (etching, spray painting, varnish, etc).

More importantly, we have an established community that's growing. There are lots of different groups in Austin, and friends meeting at coffee shops, bars, and homes. If we combine skills, knowledge, ideas, tools, and materials, just imagine the massive projects that could be undertaken! Even if you're not into any of this, but want to learn, there will be some very smart and fun people around to help teach.

We're hackers (defined here) which means we create things and put them together in new and innovative ways. ATX Hackerspace is dedicated to promote and encourage technical, scientific, and artistic skills through projects, collaboration, and education by all legal means.

NanoArt21 was founded by artist and scientist Cris Orfescu ( The purpose is to promote worldwide the NanoArt as a reflection of the technological movement. Orfescu considers NanoArt to be a  more appealing and effective way to communicate with the general public and to inform people about the new technologies of the 21st Century.
